The Juvawave Man ‘o War Oversized Red Light Therapy Blanket delivers gentle, deep-penetrating, and therapeutic infrared heat to the horse’s neck, back, shoulder, lung, barrel, and hip area to relieve pain.
The ‘Man ‘o War’ features both deep red 635nm and near-infrared 850nm LEDs with dual rechargeable batteries that offer up to 7 20-minute sessions on a single charge.
After just 20 minutes of use, the soothing infrared wavelengths penetrate up to 2.36 inches into the applied area.
This results in an increase in blood flow, which enhances the natural properties that the body requires to heal. Providing nutrients, oxygen and proteins to the area and delivering relief of pain and inflammation.
Juvawave delivers more effective and deep penetrating heat versus conventional heating pads which rely on conductive heat production from wire coil resistance. Horses are comfortable during the treatments because there is no over heating of the skin.
Since there is no dehydration factor during treatment, which allows the Man ‘o War to be applied for long periods of time. The deep therapeutic heat is relaxing and provides a comforting and powerful psychological effect to the horse. Just watching the horses during and after treatment tells us how good it must feel good to them!
About Infrared Therapy
Infrared is the non-visible wavelength of light therapy. The infrared therapeutic heat in the Man ‘o War provides a deep penetrating form of thermal energy.
This increase of thermal energy within the tissue results in an increase in the metabolic processes within the cells. This causes an increase in blood flow to the area, a decrease in pain, a decrease in stiffness, and an increase in tissue extensibility.
Infrared heat has an analgesic effect on the tissue and provides a sedative effect on the sensory nerve endings. This leads to a relaxation within the tissues, especially the muscle tissue. As a result to the increase in circulation, the waste products of injury are removed at an increased rate and are not allowed to stay in the area.
These waste products are what create nerve sensitivity and pain.
With the increase in blood flow and the added application of heat, muscle tissue becomes more elastic and are no longer left in a state of spasm. This allows the muscles to elongate further and more efficiently when placed under the stress of exercise.
The same positive benefits can be seen with the tendons and ligaments. They become more elastic which provides some prevention to strains and sprains while exercising.
Utilizing the deep penetrating infrared to a joint also has numerous benefits. There is an immediate increase within the elasticity and flexibility of the tendons and ligaments associated with that joint. This allows for greater range of motion and a relief of stiffness.
Some horses will show nothing for several treatments, but over time these things are brought to the surface.
Benefits of Infrared Therapy:
Provides relief from:
- Back ache
- Early treatment of lung bleeding
- Muscle and joint pain
- Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (Tying Up)
- Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy
- Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis (HYPP)
- Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM)
Helps to improve:
- Creating ease of breath
- Reduction in colic symptoms
- Enhance the respiratory system
- Increases hemoglobin up to 25% to 28%
- Acts as a diuretic and helps bleeders
- Reduces lactic acid levels to prevent tying up during competition
- Increase in kidney function
- Shiny hair due to an increase in natural oils
Heated blankets can be used after exercise to keep muscles from cooling down too quickly, as well as before exercise to warm up muscles prior to competition.
By warming up and loosening muscles before exercise it can help reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, infrared heat blankets provide a drug-free modality to use during competitions.
